Nikola Kitanovic

Nikola Kitanovic, poet novelist, artist, journalist, his life, biography, phase in his life and creative works

Nikola Kitanovic was born on February 21st, 1956 in Kikinda, a little town in the north of Serbia.

He finished the primary school in Telep, a poor suburb of Novi Sad. After having finished the secondary chemical school with excellent marks, he graduated at the advanced school of economics and commercialism in Novi Sad. He then enrolled at the Faculty of Philosophy, the department of Serbian literature, Novi Sad, where he was nominated by the faculty for the "Branko award of Matica Srpska" which was subsequently awarded to him.

Kitanovic wrote his first poem when he was eight years old. He presented it to his schoolteacher who was so enthusiastic about it that she had to send it to a Radio Belgrade show "Good Morning, Kids". The poem was awarded and would later often be read in the show. Since then Kitanovic has been constantly writing poetry. Selimir Radulovic, a Serbian writer and literary critic claims that "Poetry is Nikola's life". Kitanovic published his poems on regular basis in magazines throughout the former Yugoslavia.

During his high school years, Nikola became increasingly interested in mysticism, not only European but Asian as well. During his studies, having lived in a totalitarian communist regime, he came under severe criticism by the ruling government, because, fighting for his cause, he was trying to conjure up the intangible, the different. For a period of time he was not even allowed to publish his poetry and ideas. It caused no harm, though, since, with his friends' help, he spent that time traveling through Europe, Canada, USA, Asia and Australia, teaching courses and seminars on European mysticism. With the fall of the communist regime, Nikola held public speeches at the anti-war protests in Novi Sad and Belgrade.

He has also written prose, essays and critiques about literature, art, aesthetic, movie, mythology, mysticism, sociology etc. For a period of time he was also interested in painting, but due to 'the lack of time', he had to give it up. However, when he came in touch with the endless possibilities of computer graphic design, he devoted his whole being to it. Some of his works (such as "Pray of Seraphim") are extremely popular on the Internet.

He published books under his own name (Nikola Kitanovic) but also under different pseudonyms, such as: Raul Amon, Gabriel Nicholson, Johny Serbino, Michael Key Maykey...
