1.
No, this is not my life
where I spent childhood
with my bald head
running around the glade
and scratching the fresh scab
in the angle of my lips.
2.
No, this is not my life
to which I was fed
instead of milk
in the fresh winter evenings
when I was enchanted
growing wings and climbing up
to the clouds like an angel.
3.
No, this is not my life
in which I was chasing the wind
and the misty treetops
growing up between two breaths
and between two trees
in the orchard behind the village.
4.
No, this is not my life
as there is no soul
that could touch me
and make me smile or cry
and there is no tale in it
about the old vilayets
and heroes.
5.
No, this is not my life
as I haven’t got a handful of dust
that I could show to the world
for revelation and wonder
to be like a balm to the wound
like adornment for the head to become.
6.
No, this is not my life
as it is not my sister
a parent or a friend
who would cross the seven seas
and seven mountains
to reach me
when I am in trouble.
7.
No, this is not my life
as there is no one in it
to bury the hero and mourn for him
and no one to recognise the hero
while he is ascending
above the mountains and horizons
8.
No, this is not my life
as I can live in it
or not live, I can stay
and I can go, as if
I had never been there
nor a piece of it had ever
dwelt inside me.
9.
No, this is not my life
as it is not my home
where my father and mother
hold my hand
silently looking at me
while the clouds are reflected
in the enchanted windows.
